Welcome to the Mining Museum
in the old mining town of Altenberg in the Erzgebirge
When visiting Dresden, the capital of Saxony, you may wish to include a visit to our museum at the top of the mountain region called Erzgebirge. It will be a fascinating experience for you to see how mining was carried out in the past.

Many old mining buildings are situated in and around the town of Altenberg. They document mining activities in the area which started more than 550 years ago. Some of these buildings have been refurbished to show the techniques and technologies used at that time to mine and process the tin ore found in the area. The museum includes an underground tour of the mine and the staff will welcome you with a warm
"Glück Auf !"
the traditional greeting used by all German miners.
